Non-Surgical Lip Augmentation
Northern Virginia and Washington DC area
Introduction
Lip augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that can give you fuller, plumper lips using different types of injectables including fillers and neurotoxins. This procedure is typically performed using various injectables, including fillers and neurotoxins, to achieve the desired results.
During a lip augmentation procedure, a cosmetic surgeon will carefully inject the chosen injectable into the lips, adding volume and enhancing the shape of the lips. Fillers, such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, or Belotero®, are commonly used for lip augmentation, as they are specifically designed to add volume and smooth out wrinkles.
Neurotoxins, such as Botox® or Dysport®, may also be used to enhance the lips by relaxing the muscles around the mouth, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Additionally, fat transfer or surgical implants may be used to enhance lip volume, depending on the individual’s unique needs and goals.
Overall, lip augmentation can be an effective way to enhance the appearance of the lips, providing a fuller, more youthful-looking pout. We will discuss your options with you to determine which procedure is right for you.
Before and After Photos
“I recently visited Bitar for lip filler injections with Danielle, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. Danielle was so gentle and precise, making sure everything was perfect. Given my anxiety with needles, I was nervous going in, but Danielle made me feel incredibly comfortable throughout the entire process. It wasn‘t even painful! My lips turned out exactly how I hoped—absolutely perfect.”

Lip Filler / Injectables
There are many types of injectables that can be injected into your lips and around your mouth. But the most common fillers today are products that contain substances similar to hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body used to increase volume, structure, and volume in your lips.
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are a popular option for lip augmentation. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that is known for its ability to retain moisture, giving skin a plump and youthful appearance. When used as a filler, hyaluronic acid adds volume to the lips, helping to create a fuller and more defined lip contour.
Some popular hyaluronic acid-based fillers for lip augmentation include Juvéderm Ultra XC, Restylane-L, and Belotero® Balance. These fillers are designed specifically for use in the lips and are FDA-approved for safety and effectiveness. One of the benefits of hyaluronic acid-based fillers is that they are biodegradable, meaning that they will eventually break down naturally in the body over time.
For non-surgical enhancement, we offer a variety of fillers, including Juvéderm® Ultra, Juvéderm Ultra Plus, Juvéderm Voluma, Juvéderm Volbella, Restylane®, Restylane Lyft, and Restylane Refyne and Defyne injections.
The longevity of lip fillers can vary depending on the specific product used, as well as the individual’s metabolism and lifestyle factors. Typically, lip fillers can last anywhere from six months to a year, with some patients reporting even longer-lasting results. It’s important to note that the results of lip fillers are not permanent, and repeat treatments will be necessary to maintain the desired level of volume and fullness.
Lips may be bruised, swollen, and tender for up to two weeks after the initial injection. Lip augmentation will last between 6-12 months depending on how quickly your body metabolizes the filler.
Overall, hyaluronic acid-based fillers are a safe and effective option for lip augmentation. As with any cosmetic procedure, it’s important to discuss your options with a qualified cosmetic surgeon to determine which product is right for you and to understand the potential risks and benefits.
Lip Flip
A lip flip is a lip augmentation using a neurotoxin such as Botox or Dysport to give you the appearance of fuller lips. The neurotoxin relaxes the muscles around your lip, causing your upper lip to flip outward and upward. A lip flip can be combined with lip injections or can be a standalone procedure.
Unlike traditional lip injections, which add volume to the lips, the lip flip technique involves injecting small amounts of the neurotoxin into the muscles around the mouth to relax and slightly roll the lip upward and outward. This creates the appearance of a fuller upper lip without actually adding any volume.
A lip flip can be done as a standalone procedure or in combination with lip injections to enhance the overall appearance of the lips. The procedure typically takes only a few minutes and requires no downtime or recovery. The results of a lip flip can last for several weeks to a few months, typically 3-4 months, after which the procedure can be repeated to maintain the desired effect.
It’s important to note that a lip flip is a subtle enhancement and may not be suitable for everyone seeking more dramatic lip augmentation. During your consultation, we can help determine if a lip flip is the right choice for achieving your desired results. As with any cosmetic procedure, there are risks associated with a lip flip, and it’s important to discuss any concerns with your surgeon.
Preparing For Lip Augmentation Treatment
There are a few steps you can take to prepare for lip augmentation treatment. The first thing to do is to visit the Bitar Cosmetic Surgery Institute for a consultation, where we will discuss the cosmetic procedure and your goals. We’ll ask about any preexisting medical conditions and medications you’re currently taking, and advise you on how to proceed. We may recommend a skincare routine to follow both before and after the procedure for the best possible outcome.
Other things you can do to prepare for your lip augmentation treatment are:
- Avoid certain medications: Certain medications, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and blood thinners, can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising. It’s important to avoid these medications for at least two weeks before the procedure, or as directed by your cosmetic surgeon.
- Quit smoking: Smoking can interfere with the healing process and increase the risk of complications, such as infection. If you smoke, it’s important to quit at least two weeks before the procedure, or as directed by your cosmetic surgeon.
- Avoid alcohol: Alcohol can also increase the risk of bleeding and bruising, so it’s important to avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before the procedure.
Post Treatment
Our office will provide you with a detailed post-treatment instruction sheet that will be individualized to your needs. This may include applying ice to reduce swelling, avoiding certain foods and drinks, and avoiding vigorous exercise for a few days. It’s important to follow these instructions carefully to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal results.
By following these tips, you can help ensure a safe and successful lip augmentation procedure.
If you have any questions regarding pre-care or post-care please call our office and we would be happy to assist you.
Risk And Side Effects
There are some side effects associated with any cosmetic procedure. Some risks and side effects associated with lip augmentation include:
- Swelling: Swelling is a common side effect of lip augmentation treatments and may last for several days. Applying ice to the treated area can help reduce swelling.
- Bruising: Bruising is also a common side effect and may last for several days. It’s important to avoid taking blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin and fish oil, for at least two weeks before the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising. Consult with your healthcare provider for advice on how to manage medication after the lip augmentation procedure.
- Redness: Some patients may experience redness or irritation at the injection site, which typically resolves within a few days.
- Infection: Although rare, infection is a possible risk of lip augmentation treatments. It’s important to choose a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon and follow all post-procedure care instructions carefully to reduce the risk of infection.
- Asymmetry: In some cases, the lips may appear asymmetrical or uneven after the procedure. This can typically be corrected with additional injections or adjustments and can be addressed during your follow-up visit.
It’s important to note that these risks are generally low and most patients are able to return to their normal activities within a few days of the procedure. However, if you experience any unusual symptoms or complications, it’s important to contact your cosmetic surgeon right away. They can provide further guidance and treatment as needed.
