Neck & Chin Liposuction

While it’s natural to be concerned about discomfort, most patients describe neck and chin liposuction as surprisingly tolerable. At the Bitar Cosmetic Surgery Institute, the procedure is performed under anesthesia to ensure a pain-free experience during surgery. Post-operatively, patients may experience mild soreness, tightness, or swelling in the treated area, similar to the feeling after an intense workout. These symptoms are typically well-managed with prescribed medication and tend to subside within a few days. A compressive garment is often recommended to help with healing and provide additional comfort. 

Patients undergoing neck and chin liposuction at our Fairfax office (serving the greater Washington D.C. area) can expect a thoughtful, well-paced appointment schedule designed to support both safety and satisfaction. You’ll begin with a personalized consultation, followed by a pre-operative medical clearance visit. After surgery, we typically schedule your first post-op check within 24 to 48 hours. From there, additional follow-ups occur over the first few weeks and months, and then a final visit around the one-year mark to ensure everything has healed properly. In total, most patients attend approximately 5 to 7 visits throughout the journey.

Initial improvements in the contour of the neck and jawline can often be observed within a few weeks of the procedure, particularly once the majority of swelling has subsided. However, the most dramatic and refined results from neck and chin liposuction usually emerge between 3 and 6 months post-op, with continued subtle improvements for up to 12 months. 

Depending on your aesthetic goals, Dr. Bitar may recommend pairing it with a mini facelift, neck lift, or chin implant to refine the jawline and provide more comprehensive rejuvenation. It’s also common to add non-surgical treatments, such as dermal fillers or laser resurfacing, to address skin texture, volume loss, or fine lines. Combining procedures can offer more balanced, natural-looking results while also reducing the need for multiple recovery periods. • General Complications
  General complications can occur with any surgery. Cosmetic surgery is typically a safe procedure performed on healthy patients and, like all surgeries, carries a low risk. To further reduce the risk of complications, we operate at a first-class hospital with board-certified anesthesiologists and nurses. To minimize postoperative complications, we recommend early mobilization, with patients visiting our office one to two days after surgery and actively participating in their own postoperative care. When we create a partnership, the results invariably improve.

• Bleeding
  Bleeding is rare with any form of liposuction. Before liposuctioning the neck, we inject a tumescent solution that constricts the blood vessels and minimizes bleeding. The bleeding from this operation with this technique has been minimal.

• Infection
  The most important step in avoiding infections is to perform the surgery at a first-rate surgical facility with board-certified anesthesiologists and nurses. Patients are given the appropriate intravenous antibiotic coverage throughout the surgery. During the surgery, the patient’s skin surface is cleaned thoroughly. After the procedure, our patients are prescribed a one-week course of antibiotics to minimize infection. As a result of these extra precautions, our rate of infection after a neck liposuction is negligible.

• Open Wounds
  Since there is no skin removal or tissue manipulation involved in neck liposuction, other than suctioning fat from the neck, open wounds are non-existent.

• Nerve Injury
  We exercise caution around the nerves in the neck region and avoid aggressive liposuction techniques to minimize nerve injury. Temporary loss of sensation from a “stunned” nerve or a bruised nerve may occur in the period after surgery, but in the vast majority of cases, sensation returns within a few weeks.
