Consultation

During a consultation, the provider will assess the problem areas that are of concern. Discrete bulges that can easily be grasped with two hands and pulled away from the body respond very well to this treatment. Soft fat responds much better than hard, visceral fat. Popular areas for treatment include the upper and lower abdomen, love handles, bra rolls, arms, inner thighs, and chin. After examination of the trouble areas, a treatment plan of two to three sessions is developed.

The Coolsculpting Procedure

Treatment involves a reasonably comfortable procedure performed in the office without any medications. The affected areas are marked with a marking template. A cool gel sheet is applied to protect the skin. A suction cup device is applied to the problem area, which gently suctions in the skin and tissue to freeze the fat in that area. The crystallization of fat leads to the permanent clearance of these fat cells and byproducts through the lymphatic system and liver. The permanent loss in fat cells leads to a significant reduction in the size of the bulge. More dramatic improvement can be achieved with multiple sessions separated at least one month apart. After the procedure, patients can drive themselves home and resume normal activities that same day. Most patients are candidates for CoolSculpt unless they are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a cold-related blood disorder.

This makes the treatment exceedingly safe. Some patients may experience temporary numbness, tingling or a mild burning sensation after the treatment, but this typically resolves quickly. Uncommonly, some patients can have nerve sensitivity and moderate pain afterward, which can usually be managed with oral analgesic or topical anesthetic medications.
