CoolSculpting is a fat loss procedure that destroys fat cells through a process called cryolipolysis. The CoolSculpt applicator is attached to the skin and gradually lowers the temperature of the fat cells in order to induce apoptosis, or controlled cell death. The procedure is painless and lasts around one hour per area being targeted for fat loss.
The lipids in fat cells crystallize at a warmer temperature than most cells, meaning CoolSculpting will exclusively freeze fat cells and leave the surrounding tissue unharmed. Once the cells have been destroyed, the body’s natural lymphatic system will remove them over a period of two to four months.
Downtime following a CoolSculpting appointment is nonexistent and side effects are very mild. Each CoolSculpting treatment removes an average of 23 percent of the fat cells in the targeted area. Most of our patients are happy with such a reduction, however, for those seeking a more aggressive result, two to three appointments spaced at least one month apart are recommended. CoolSculpting is not meant for significant fat loss and does not cause much, if any, weight loss. We recommend being within 10 to 15 pounds of your ideal body weight before considering a CoolSculpting procedure.
