PREPARING FOR THE PROCEDURE
Since the laser targets the roots of the hair, patients should avoid plucking and waxing for six weeks before treatment. Sun exposure will also make laser hair removal less effective and can increase the risk of complications after treatment. Use sunscreen or stay out of the sun for at least six weeks before undergoing this procedure.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING LASER HAIR REMOVAL
You will be advised to shave your hair the night before your treatment. Before the treatment, your provider will apply a special numbing cream to ensure your ultimate comfort throughout the treatment.
Unlike many other laser systems, the Sciton JOULE’s ClearScan attachment has a continuous cooling system that allows for permanent hair reduction while providing ultimate comfort and safety as well. The 250 watt chiller decreases temperatures at a significantly faster rate than other hair removal cooling methods.
A pulse of light will be delivered to the treatment area. Your provider will closely watch the area for several minutes to ensure your skin reacts properly. The length of the treatment time will depend on the size of the area to be treated. The continuous cooling feature will help keep you comfortable during the procedure, but a topical anesthetic can also be provided to limit pain.
RECOVERY
Redness and slight swelling will occur after the procedure, but should subside within a few hours. Keep the area clean and wear a minimum of SPF 15 sunscreen when outdoors. You may resume regular activity following the procedure. Multiple laser hair removal treatments are needed for maximum hair reduction. Any hair that does grow back will be finer and lighter than it was prior to treatment.
