Discomfort is usually mild to moderate in the first few days and feels more like soreness or sensitivity than sharp pain. Dr. Bitar uses meticulous technique and advanced anesthesia to keep you as comfortable as possible, and we’ll provide medication to help ease any post-op discomfort. Swelling and tenderness are completely normal at first, but these improve quickly with rest, ice packs, and sitz baths.

After your initial consultation, you’ll come in on the day of surgery, followed by a next-day check-up. From there, expect a series of follow-ups spaced out over the next several months to ensure you’re healing on track. We also include a one-year final visit to admire the finished result, but you’re always welcome to pop back in sooner or later if you have questions or want to check in.

You’ll start noticing improvements pretty quickly, but full results from labiaplasty take a bit of time, and that’s totally normal. In the first few days, expect swelling, tenderness, and maybe a little bruising. Most noticeable swelling typically starts to subside within two to three weeks, and by the one-month mark, things should already look and feel significantly better. That said, final results usually take about three to six months to fully settle in as the tissues heal, swelling resolves completely, and sensation returns to baseline.

• General Complications
  General complications can occur with any surgery. Cosmetic surgery is typically a safe procedure performed on healthy patients and, like all surgeries, carries a low risk. To further reduce the risk of complications, we operate at a first-class surgery center with board-certified anesthesiologists and nurses. To avoid postoperative complications, we advocate for early mobilization – patients seen in our office one or two days after surgery- and active participation in their own postoperative care. When we create a partnership, the results invariably improve.

• Bleeding
  Bleeding after a labiaplasty is rare when performed properly. Before surgery, our patients are tested to make sure they don’t have any common bleeding disorders by their own physicians and by lab tests.

• Infection/Wounds
  The most important step in avoiding infections is to undergo surgery at a first-rate surgical facility with board-certified anesthesiologists and nurses. During the surgery, the patient’s skin surface is cleaned thoroughly. After the procedure, our patients are prescribed antibiotics to minimize infection. As a result of these extra precautions, our rate of infection after a labiaplasty is minimal.

• Nerve Injury
  The clitoris and the hood are extremely sensitive areas. I do not perform any clitoral hood reduction to minimize the chance of nerve damage and hypersensitivity. Sometimes, temporary loss of sensation from a “stunned” nerve or a bruised nerve may occur in the time period after surgery and generally recovers over several weeks.
